Introduction to Partagas Cigars Legacy

Don Jaime’s selection of the ‘Royal Factory’ title reflected his prestigious clientele, including European and Arabian aristocracy.
A trailblazer, Jaime Partagas introduced a lector in the 1860s to read aloud to the workers, enhancing their job and educating them simultaneously. His innovative spirit also led to the first broadcasting in a cigar factory.
The untimely demise of Jaime Partagas, under mysterious circumstances, occurred in 1868. His son, Jose Partagas, took the reins of the family business thereafter. The Partagas family eventually sold the factory in the late 19th Century. It changed several hands until the Cifuentes family acquired it in 1940, rebranding it as ‘Cifuentes y Cia’.
Acquisitions by the Partagas Factory, including the Bolivar and La Gloria Cubana brands, expanded its portfolio in 1954. At the Cuban Revolution’s onset, Partagas was a leading Havana exporter.
Post-Revolution History
Following the Cifuentes family’s 1961 departure from Cuba, Partagas cigar production continued uninterrupted. The brand, alongside others like Cifuentes, Ramon Allones, Bolivar, and La Gloria Cubana, persevered post-Revolution.
In the past four decades, Partagas has remained a top-selling brand, alongside other notable names like Montecristo and H. Upmann.

However, a shift around 1995 led to a milder blend, slightly toning down these intense flavours.
