Rolls-Royce Ceases Production of Iconic Convertible, the Dawn, to Make Way for Spectre EV
Rolls-Royce has officially confirmed the discontinuation of its beloved convertible model, the Dawn, after a successful seven-year production run. The decision comes as the automotive industry gears up for the rise of electric vehicles, with Rolls-Royce preparing to introduce its Spectre EV in 2023. With the Dawn bidding farewell, the Ghost, Phantom, and Cullinan will be the remaining models in the Rolls-Royce lineup powered by combustion engines.
The Dawn, a four-seater convertible inspired by the classic “Silver Dawn” produced between 1950 and 1954, featured a formidable 6.6-liter V12 twin-turbo engine, boasting 564 horsepower and an 8-speed automatic transmission.
As Rolls-Royce enters the final stages of electric vehicle development and testing, the Spectre EV is set to take center stage. Deliveries are anticipated to commence in the last quarter of 2023. This shift reflects the company’s strategic emphasis on electric mobility, as articulated by CEO Torsten Müller-Ötvös in 2022.
Describing the discontinuation of the Dawn, the company’s official statement referred to it as the “end of a glorious, glamorous era.” Currently, there is no convertible alternative available in the Rolls-Royce lineup. Müller-Ötvös remarked, “As production of the Dawn draws to a close, we can reflect on an extraordinary chapter in the marque’s history. This exquisite motor car perfectly embodies contemporary luxury while paying homage to the founding principles and heritage of the brand.”
